Citymapper links up with Gett for shared fixed taxi route

Citymapper Gett Transport navigation app Citymapper has teamed up with UK black cab app Gett to launch a service that combines a bus journey with a taxi ride.

Through the partnership, shared taxis will be offered along a fixed route running between Highbury and Waterloo – and passengers can get on and off anywhere they like on the route.

The BB1 route, which has been dubbed ‘Project Black Bus’, will operate between 7am and 10am and 5pm and 8pm from Monday 25 September. Journeys will cost a fixed price of £3.

Citymapper used its Simcity route creation and evaluation software, which it has used in the past to create its CM2 night bus, to identify a gap in London’s transport network.

The BB1 is aimed at creating an easier link between Highbury and the south east of London. Existing trips between Highbury and Waterloo would require three buses or tubes. In addition, it serves the gap between the zone 1 locations of Angel and Farringdon.

The service is multimodal-ready, so will combine with other modes of transport for the quickest travel route to a specific location when a travel query is entered into the Citymapper app.
