Comcast extends home automation to over 15m customers

Comcast Xfinity home automationComcast is expanding its home automation capabilities across all of its Xfinity services product portfolio – including X1, xFi, Xfinity Home, and Xfinity Mobile – making smart home controls available to more than 15m Xfinity customers for no additional cost.

Comcast’s Xfinity brand provides cable television, internet, telephone, and wireless services to millions of Americans.

“Xfinity will be the home operating system that integrates every IoT device and transforms a connected home into an intelligent home,” said Chris Satchell, EVP and CPO at Comcast.  “Our engineers are working to enable our customers to easily control their connected devices, making full use of our Xfinity platforms, such as Voice Control, X1, xFi and Xfinity Home.  We also will add value to that experience by giving customers contextual suggestions for automation that will help them take full advantage of their digital home, making it more useful, fun, and enjoyable.”

Back in May 2017, Comcast added xFi to its portfolio of products, giving its customers access to a personalised cloud-based wi-fi network that can be controlled via a mobile app.

This was followed in September by the acquisition of Stringify, which provides a cloud-powered automation service for over 500 IoT products and services. This technology will soon be integrated into Xfinity’s products and services.
