Didi Chuxing adds bike sharing to its app

BluegogoDidi Chuxing, the owner of Uber’s China division, has launched a bike sharing platform within its app – integrating the services provided by Bluegogo and Ofo.

The ‘Bike-Sharing’ tab will be introduced to the Didi app in Beijing and Shenzhen, enabling users to rent bikes without a deposit being required. It will eventually be rolled out across China.

“By launching its bike-sharing platform, Didi will upgrade its short-trip mobility strategy and provide various mobility options and better travel experiences for travelers on the last three kilometers,” says Fu Qiang, senior VP of Didi. “This illustrates Didis efforts to continuously improve our one-stop transportation platform.”

With Didi also planning to introduce its own-branded bike sharing service, the move can only be seen as an aggressive strategic manoeuvre in order to reduce competition. The integration of Bluegogo and Ofo ensures that users will have no need to download their apps, instead only using Didi’s app for all their transportation needs.
