Dos Toros offers customers free burritos via app

Quick service restaurant chain Dos Toros is offering customers a chance to win a free burrito every day through a dedicated app called Burrito Time. The firm, which boasts 18 locations in New York City and Chicago, is hoping the app will allow the company to stand out amongst its competitors.

The app, which launched earlier this week, sends out a push notification at a random time each day telling users that its “Burrito Time”, and prompting them to open the app. The first 10 users to open the app will receive a digital voucher entitling them to one free burrito with guacamole. Users can then redeem their voucher at any branch.

“Burrito Time could be the simplest yet most amazing app to ever launch from a restaurant,” said a Dos Toros spokesperson. “Contrary to many apps developed by fast-casual chains across the country, this app has no menu, no order-ahead functionality, no loyalty program…it only does one thing…daily burrito drops!”

Dos Toros was founded in 2009 by Leo and Oliver Kremer, two brothers from Berkeley, California who were disappointed by the selection of taquerias available in New York City. The chain offers Mission-style burritos, and focuses on a “simple but fun” brand identity that it hopes will enable it to compete with larger chains like Chipotle and Taco Bell.

The app was created in partnership with Brooklyn-based agency Mschf, known for its quirky approach to marketing. The company has focused on in-store and social marketing so far, with physical reward cards that resemble New York metro passes and an Instagram account for Pinto the Burrito, the brands mascot, that boasts over 122,000 followers.
