eMarketer Predicts Facebook will Reach 50 Per Cent of UK mobile users in 2016

More than half of all UK mobile phone users will regularly use their device for Facebook this year, according to a new forecast from eMarketer.

The digital data aggregation service says that by the end of 2016, 50.8 per cent of UK mobile phone users will log into Facebook at least once a month via their mobile device.

eMarketer also says that 81.1 per cent of UK Facebook users will use their mobile device to access the social network, rising to 88 per cent by 2020.

“People are spending more time than ever with mobile devices,” says Bill Fisher, eMarketer’s UK analyst. “It stands to reason that Facebook users are heading to the mobile platform, too. Indeed, such is the ubiquity of these devices that the default platform for the vast majority of Facebook users is now mobile.”

eMarketer also predicts another milestone for Facebook in the UK this year – according to its forecast, more than half of the UK population will use Facebook on a regular basis in 2016.

The forecast says that by the end of the year, Facebook will have 33.2m once-a-month users in the UK – 50.5 per cent of UK residents. This is up from 49.5 per cent in 2015.

eMarketers figures also outline Facebooks dominance in the UK social networking scene. The company says that 89.9 per cent of social network users in the UK will be Facebook users in 2016, which will rise to 35.4m by 2020.

In contrast, eMarketer says Twitter will have 14.3m once-a-month users in the UK this year – 38.7 per cent of UK social network users.
