Just over a year after Facebook brought Workplace out of beta, the business-orientated social network – created to challenge the likes of Slack, Microsoft, and others in the team collaboration field – is now home to over 30,000 organisations around the world. These organisations have used the platform to create more than 1m groups between them, and Facebook doesn’t want them to stop their use of the platform there.

Now, Facebook is launching a Workplace Chat desktop app for both PC and Mac to accompany the already existing browser and mobile versions. The desktop app – like its mobile counterpart – includes video chat, screen sharing, and file sharing, as well as message reactions, @mentions, and gifs.

In addition, in the coming weeks, Facebook says it will begin rolling out group video chat on desktop and mobile, so teams can have face-to-face meetings from the comfort of their device screens.

Facebook has also decided to give an updated look to Workplace, as a whole, that is consistent across all of its apps.

Changes include updated icons, larger like, comment, and share buttons, circular profile pictures, larger link previews, different colour scheme, improved navigation, and more.
