ForgetMeNot Launches App Challenge in Zimbabwe

ForgetMeNot Africa is launching the eTXT Apps Challenge, a competition giving developers the chance to see their apps launched on Econet Wireless Zimbabwes network. Winning entrants will receive $2,000 seed capital to develop their ideas to be launched to Econets 6m subscribers, from which they will receive an ongoing revenue share.

The competition follows ForgetMeNot Africa’s Kipokezi Apps Challenge in Kenya, which saw entrants including a traffic information app, a treasure hunt game and a football app which updated users with the latest information on the Kenyan Premier League.

“Zimbabwe has a wealth of developer talent and we want to give them the same opportunity as we did in Kenya to earn revenue from their ideas,” says Jeremy George, Chief Operating Officer at ForgetMeNot Africa. “We are giving developers the chance to bring their ideas for unique apps or games that are useful, fun and highly relevant to Zimbabwean mobile users.”

Via Econets eTXT, ForgetMeNot’s Optimiser platform enables users to access internet-free Facebook, email and online using SMS, widening the reach of these services to include those in the region without access to smartphones.
