The global app market will be worth $15.5bn (£9.57bn) this year, according to IHS, with iOS and Android accounting for 85 per cent of spend across the world.
The number of apps downloaded will reach 90bn, up from 49bn in 2012, and with free downloads dominating, 80 per cent of this revenue is being generated from in-app purchases. Mobile advertising is growing, principal analyst Jake Kent said, with display ads accounting for $6bn this year, but is mainly driven by Facebooks efforts to move into mobile.
Top developers, particularly gaming companies, take home the majority of this revenue, including King, Supercall and Gung+Ho.
