Glu Mobile Prepares Nicki Minaj and Jason Statham Games

nicki and jasonIn the wake of its hugely successful Kim Kardashian: Hollywood app, mobile game developer Glu Mobile is preparing to launch similar titles featuring hip-hop star Nicki Minaj and actor Jason Statham.

Despite being free to download, the companys Kim Kardashian: Hollywood game has generated $113.6m (£72.7m) in revenues as of June through in-app purchases. The game has been downloaded 35m times since its release in June 2014, and was among the top 15 grossing apps in the US iOS App Store for almost six months after its launch.

The deals with Nicki Minaj and Jason Statham are expected to follow a similar format, with large royalties for the celebrities expected to eat into profit margins somewhat, but the buzz generated by having famous figures attached to the games making the deals more than worth it.

The Jason Statham game, expected to be titled Sniper X: Kill Confirmed, marks the companys first male celebrity partner, and its first action game. The game is slated for a global release in Q3 2015, and will incorporate Stathams name, likeness and voice into the first-person shooter game.

“Jason Stathams action persona and strong social following make him an ideal partner for Sniper X: Kill Confirmed,” said Niccolo de Masi, CEO and chairman of Glu. “We look forward to launching this new title to a global audience of mobile action gaming fans, including Jasons social audience of more than 54m followers.”

Nicki Minajs game has yet to be confirmed, but the award-winning singer will have a say in the creative design of the game as well as lending her voice and likeness to the app, and with her passionate fanbase that includes 42m followers on Facebook and 20m on Twitter, the game is likely to draw high numbers of downloads when released.
