Google has opened up its VR educational ‘Expeditions’ to anybody with a Cardboard or Daydream headset, after previously pushing it as a tool for teachers to aid the learning of their students.

Via the Expeditions app and their headset of choice, Android users are able to explore more than 600 different tours from around the world. Locations that can be transported to include the Taj Mahal, the Great Wall of China, Machu Picchu, the Empire State Building, the Colosseum, and even users can even take a swim with sharks as part of the app’s ‘Ocean Safari’ section.  

“Self-Guided Expeditions let anyone explore anywhere,” said Jiabei Lei, software engineer at Google, in a blog post. “Students can go on tours at home and share the experience with their family. Teachers can assign tours as homework to complement in-class work. What better way to round out textbook reading about the Founding Fathers than an Expedition about the Hamilton-Burr duel narrated by Lin-Manuel Miranda? And of course, anybody who loves to learn and explore can experience all the tours for themselves.”
