Grab to introduce 200 electric cars next year

Grab SP Group electric carSoutheast Asian ride-hailing firm Grab has partnered with the Singapore Power (SP) Group to increase the number of electric vehicles (EVs) in its fleet of taxis.

The deal will see Grab bring in 200 ‘fast-charging’ EVs with the firm’s driver-partners enjoying ‘preferential’ charging rates at all SP charging stations. Drivers who opt-in to receive an EV can expect to earn up to 25 per cent more daily income than those with regular petrol vehicles and up to 20 more daily income than those with hybrid vehicles, according to Grab.

The fleet of vehicles will be progressively rolled out in Singapore from early 2019. SP plans to install charging points at convenient locations, such as close to coffee shops and food outlets.

With SP joining our consortium of EV partners, Grab is in a unique position to help drive a cleaner, greener Singapore by encouraging more of our drivers to adopt EVs,” said Lim Kell Jay, head of Grab Singapore. “Grab operates the largest electric and hybrid vehicle fleet in Southeast Asia today, and we are committed to delivering the benefits from EVs to more of our driver-partners.”
