Huuuge buys Helsinki-based Double Star game studio

Huuuge Games CEO Anton Gauffin

Huuuge Games, the game developer behind popular mobile games including Billionaire Casino, Traffic Puzzle, and DreamWorks Trolls Pop, has acquired Double Star game studio. The terms of the deal remain undisclosed.

Double Star, based in Helsinki, was founded by Tuomas Erikoinen and Petri Räsänen. Huuuge and Double Star are already publishing partners – having worked together to release casual RPG game Bow Land.

“We are delighted to be acquiring Double Star studio, an innovative game studio founded by industry veterans with track records of developing and releasing numerous successful games,” said Anton Gauffin, Huuuge Games CEO. “Since Huuuge is already working with Double Star studio in the development of Bow Land, we already have first-hand experience of their knowledge of the industry and particular expertise in mobile gaming.

“This acquisition marks another step forward in our Build-and-Buy strategy and our increasing focus on inorganic growth opportunities. Finland has been – and continues to be – one of the worlds best hubs for gaming talent.”

Erikoinen previously founded Part Time Monkey, releasing more than 15 games with combined downloads exceeding 50m. Before that, he created the original artwork for Angry Birds and co-founded Boomlagoon. Räsänen was previously Lead Artist at Seriously Digital Entertainment, where he designed the core in-game visual style for games including Best Friends.

The addition of Double Star means that Huuuge now has 12 offices globally, employing more than 600 people. It comes just shortly after the company acquired Amsterdam-based advertising startup Playable Platform, which focuses on developing interactive and playable ads.
