Irish Independent Launches on iPad and iPhone

Independent Newspapers of Ireland has optimised The Irish Independent for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad, writes Martin Conway. Utilising Newspaper Direct’s PressReader digital publishing application, the Irish daily can now be accessed, from cover to cover, across these devices.
Ian Byrne, MD, Independent Digital, says: “We were the first major Irish newspaper to launch an ePaper edition online, in 2006. The addition of our iPad and iPhone apps reinforces the Independent’s position at the pinnacle of innovation in the Irish marketplace.” 
Upon downloading the app, users can flip through the pages, using pan, zoom and rotate functions to hone in on the paper’s contents. There are also options to share articles by email, to open full articles in easy-to-read text view and to access audio versions of articles and news stories. Byrne says that plans are underway to introduce enhanced e-navigation and social media features.
