Jam City cuts workforce by 10%

Mobile development company, Jam City has reduced its workforce by 10%.

According to a representative speaking with Nicole Carpenter of Polygon, around 85 employees were laid off last Friday [2 August].

Carpenter revealed that Jam City CEO Josh Yguado cited the current market conditions as the reason for this decision in an email sent to staff.

The email read: “After a challenging 2023, industry analysts predicted an upward trend for gaming in 2024.

“While we have seen moderate improvements in some areas, the overall upward trend has not materalised as expected.”

Meanwhile, Carpenter also noted that the developer experienced “lower-than-expected game performance in several of its key titles.”

The news comes as in August 2022, the company reduced its workforce by 17%, impacting between 150 and 200 employees.

The majority of these layoffs reportedly occurred at its subsidiary studio, Ludia, which the company acquired for $165 million in September 2021.
