Last Call for Vodafones Smart Accessibility Awards

The Vodafone Foundation has made a final call for developers to enter the Smart Accessibility Awards with the best smartphone apps to help older and disabled people.

Entries can be made in one of four categories: social participation, independent living, mobility and well-being. Winners get a share of the €200,000 (£160,000) prize which will be presented at a ceremony in December.

The competition is now in its second year. Last years winning apps included an emergency text-to-speech service; a wheelchair accessibility map and review service; a video magnifier for people with dyslexia, colour blindness or other visual impairments; and an alternative big-button home-screen.

The judges are drawn from the Vodafone Foundation, a registered charity that invests that in the communities in which Vodafone operates, AGE Platform Europe, the European network of 160 organisations for people aged 50 plus and the European Disability Forum, the NGO that represents the interests of 80 million  people with disabilities.

The awards are part of the Vodafone Foundations Mobile for Good programme, which supports the use mobile technology to drive positive change. They are designed to ensure that extend the smartphone revolution reaches as many communities as possible.
