Lyft is investigating whether its employees illegitimately accessed customer data – including gathering information on current partners, exes, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and Hollywood stars.
The ride hailing firm has decided to investigate following a claim by an anonymous user on Blind, an app which enables employees to discuss their workplace issues anonymously, that employees have been using their access to customer data inappropriately. Data allegedly obtained included checking where current and ex partners were taking rides to, stalking people they found attractive, and even picking up personal details such as phone number of people like Mark Zuckerberg, Hollywood actresses, and porn stars.
Everything on the Lyft database is logged and attributed to a specific employee, according to Lyft, while all employees are supposedly trained in data privacy and prohibited from abusing customer data via confidentiality and responsible use agreements.
The undertaking of the investigation was confirmed by a Lyft spokesperson to The Information, though the person said Lyft had not received any internal complaints about the issue.
