Mobiplug has secured $2.7m in Series A funding led by Foundry Group, with Ryan McIntyre from the group joining its board. The company also named entrepreneur, and mentor-in-residence at Colorados TechStars startup hub, Tim Enwall, as its new CEO.
The Mobiplug apps, web services and equipment allow people to use their smartphones, while at home or away, to monitor and control their home with off-the-shelf smart items from retailers including Amazon, Home Depot and Best Buy. MobiPlug will also be made available to developers who want to create their own smarthome experience.
The company graduated in TechStars Boulders 2012 summer class and have quickly been snapped up. Additional investors include Bullet Time Ventures, SK Ventures, Social Leverage, Clarion Direct Investment.
“As a TechStars mentor and advisor to Mobiplug this past summer, I was really impressed by the co-founders and their ability to solve the thorny technical and interoperability problems that are currently holding back the home monitoring and control and Internet of Things industry from mass adoption,” said Foundry Group managing partner, Ryan McIntyre.
