MoviePass hit by outage at peak time

MoviePassMovie subscription service MoviePass was hit with an outage at the peak movie viewing time of Friday evening with subscribers taking to Twitter to voice their frustrations at not being able to check into a movie.

MoviePass identified the issue, stating in a tweet: “We are currently aware of an issue affecting some users who are trying to check-in to a film this evening. We ask for your patience as we work through this issue. Well post a further update as things progress. Thank you.”

This was followed up a few hours later with a tweet saying the problem had been resolved.

“We have full resolution of the outage and are confident users can check in again for this evening,” said MoviePass.

The app said it would be refunding anybody that was forced to pay for a movie out of pocket, as a result of the outage, asking them to send over the full receipt in order to be reimbursed. Although, many users expressed their doubts at the likelihood of receiving a refund – some pointing out that they have been waiting four months for a refund, following a similar outage in the past.

Meanwhile, others have speculated that the outage may be intentional, being that Ant-Man and the Wasp had just been released and the same thing happened on the weekend Avengers: Infinity War was released.
