MWC 2012 to Focus on Mobile Marketing

The GSMA has revealed the first details of Mobile World Congress 2012, with mobile marketing and advertising being a central theme. 

The event, which is to take place February 27 to March 1 2012 in Barcelona, will feature a new mPowered Brands programme, which will focus on building marketers knowledge and accelerating their use of mobile as a marketing medium, says the GSMA. 

“The mPowered Brands programme provides an indispensible opportunity for professionals across the mobile marketing ecosystem to gain important and timely insights, practical knowledge and innovative solutions from the companies at the forefront of mobile marketing today,” said the organisation in a press statement. 

The mPowered Brands programme will comprise of three key elements. First, an mPowered Brands zone at the exhibition will feature mobile advertising solutions providers including advertising research, ad networks and mobile operator ad solutions. 

Secondly, the mPowered Brands Theatres will provide marketers and ad agencies with a space to host clients and prospects, and provide pitches and company updates. 

The final element is a mPowered Brands Mobile Ambassadors, which is a mobile industry learning and tour programme to help marketers and brand leaders share perspectives and make connections with others in the industry. 

“Mobile is transforming our world in unprecedented ways, changing the way we work, live and interact,” says Michael OHara, chief marketing officer, GSMA. “At Mobile World Congress 2012, well highlight the cutting-edge technologies, solutions and services that are redefining mobile today and into the future.”

As well as this new mobile marketing and advertising focus, the event will see a range of big players in the industry exhibit and their leaders speak.

On top of this keynote programme, MWC 2012 will also feature dedicated tracks on applications, embedded mobile, mobile health, mobile money, next-generation technologies and OSS/BSS, as well as sessions exploring business strategy, cloud computing, developing markets, devices, network capacity, regional issues and social media, among other topics, says the GSMA. 

The 2012 conference sees the App Planet programme return for a third year, showcasing application development technologies and sessions for learning and networking. There will also be App Challenges – development competitions for devs – to take part in.
