Rovio has recently launched its animated spin-off of Angry Birds, but its not the only app to get adapted into a cartoon. OTT voice and messaging app Line – a sort of Japanese Skype-meets-WhatsApp – has also launched an animated series, Line Town, on Tokyo TV Channel 6.
It might seem like a strange choice to turn into a cartoon, but Line is almost as much of a franchise as Angry Birds, with a range of spin-off apps, from eCard creators to puzzle games.
As in these apps, the cartoon series features the characters which appear in Lines stickers, animated emoticons which can be attached to messages, and are peppered throughout the app.
While Line hasnt yet been so heavily adopted in the West, its a huge hit, with 120m users worldwide.
