Pac-Man publisher Bandai Namco teams with Docomo Digital for mobile game distribution

Bandai NamcoBandai Namco Entertainment Europe, the publisher behind popular classic games such as Pac-Man, Tekken, Dragon Ball and Galaga, has announced a partnership with mCommerce enabler Docomo Digital. The partnership is aimed at expanding driving growth and expanding content portfolios for Namco.

The pairing will see Namco and Docomo co-create HTML5 based games, which the London-based payment solutions company will offer directly to its network of mobile operators. Docomo also plans to use the partnership to develop stronger relationships with alternative app stores, mobile device OEMs and operators in Africa, LATAM and India.

“For us, the partnership is a huge step towards our growth strategy in India, LATAM and Africa and will enable us to expand our content offering to our network of over 250 network operators globally,” said Hiroyuki Sato, CEO of Docomo Digital.

Some of Namco’s freemium mobile games will be distributed to unbanked countries, where direct carrier billing is a mainstream payment method for digital content, using Docomo’s distribution reach.

“As part of our ongoing strategy to provide more fun for everyone, we believe this important partnership with Docomo Digital and their network will allow us to reach emerging markets more easily where we see a continued growth of interest for entertainment,” said Naoki Katashima, president and COO of Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe. “We hope that our products and services will help increase and enhance social activities in these territories.”
