Music-identification app Shazam has announced that it has surpassed 100m monthly active users, a 34 per cent year-on-year increase and a milestone that only a few other services have reached, such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
The app has been downloaded onto more that 500m mobile devices to date, and continues to acquire users at a rate of 13m a month. The huge user base sees the app used more than 20m times a day, and driving over 400,000 digital music sales a day, around 7 per cent of all downloaded music globally.
Improvements in the apps speed and simplicity have aided in driving its growth, and remain the central focus of the companys product and engineering team. In the past year, updates to the apps functionality have included an always on feature, personalised newsfeeds, streaming integration and trending charts.
“Shazam is evolving from being a way to identify a song to a way for people to explroe and connect with the world around them,” said Rich Riley, CEO at Shazam. “Shazam now delivers a deeper discovery and content experience for music and TV, with retail, cinema and more coming soon. Our rapid user growth and engagement demonstrates that consumers are hungry for an immersive mobile experience.”
