Some Nissan car owners can now control their vehicles via Alexa

Nissan Amazon Echo AlexaJapanese automaker Nissan has teamed up with Amazon to bring Alexa, the eCommerce giant’s AI assistant, to some of its vehicles.

With the new ‘NissanConnect Services’ Amazon Alexa skill, owners of select Nissan models will be able to communicate with their car from the comfort of their home via an Echo device. Owners will be able to use voice commands to remote lock/unlock their vehicle, honk the horn, flash the lights, start or stop the car. Certain commands will require a four-digit pin for added security.

“Intelligent integration means helping our customers even when they are not behind the wheel,” said Dan Teeter, director of vehicle connected services at Nissan North America. “We are about bringing unexpected innovations to customers, and are excited to offer this technology to both existing and new Nissan owners.”

The integration is available on certain model year 2016, 2017, 2017.5 and 2018 vehicles that are equipped with NissanConnect Services telematics. Owners will have to have an active NissanConnect Services subscription and valid Nissan Owner Portal account.

Alexa will arrive to some of Nissan’s connected vehicles later this month. Models which will get integration include the Altima, Armada, GT-R, Maxima, Murano, Pathfinder, Rogue, Rogue Sport, Sentra, Titan, and Titan XD – with ‘more to come’.
