Spotify has begun testing an app that is very much similar Pandora’s original music streaming offering, meaning it’s a lot like the radio.
Stations by Spotify is a standalone app, first reported on by Variety, which enables users to listen to a collection of personalised, curated music stations for free – without the need to search anything. Furthermore, the app begins playing as soon as the user opens it up, and the user is able to navigate to their preferred playlist by swiping and tapping.
“When you have access to all the music in the world, finding the right thing to play can feel like a challenge,” Spotify says in the app’s description. “With Stations, you can listen immediately, and switching stations is simple and seamless–no searching or typing needed. As you listen, it learns what you like and creates personalised stations that you’ll love.”
Stations is in a purely experimental phase, and is currently only available via Google Play in Australia on certain devices. The app does not let users create their own playlists, but they are able to customise and hide the ones that have been curated for them.
