The telecoms sector is the most optimistic of all businesses in terms of the employment outlook for this year, according to the Barclays Job Creation Survey 2013, with 64 per stating the intention to create full-time roles, up from 51 per cent in 2012.
69 per cent said they will be creating new positions, including part-time or other less permanent work, up six per cent on a year earlier. This is 23 per cent more than the cross-sector average. 79 per cent said they expected those jobs would be for skilled workers and middle management, while just 27 per cent would be offering entry-level positions. 75 per cent also said they are not expecting to lose any jobs over the next 12 months.
“It’s good to see such positive sentiment from the sector regarding creating full time jobs this year,” said Sean Duffy, MD and head of Barclays’ technology, media and telecoms team. “Telcos may have been prudent in hiring in recent years, due to the on-going economic challenges, but are now feeling more optimistic about growing their businesses and their workforces.”
