Temple Run 2 has been downloaded over 50m in just 13 days, setting a new record for the fastest growing mobile game – beating out Rovios record for Angry Birds Space, which took 35 days to hit the same milestone.
The free app had a staggered release, initially launching exclusively on iOS on 17 January, where it hit 6m downloads in less than 24 hours, then coming to Android on 24 January. Overall, its averaged 3.9m downloads a day – roughly 160,000 each hour, or 45 downloads a second.
“Temple Run has evolved into something so much bigger than us,” says Keith Shepherd, who co-founded Imangi Studios along with his wife Natalia Luckyanova. “The game has performed beyond our wildest dreams, and we are thrilled that gamers and fans have embraced Temple Run 2 in such a short period of time.”
Since it launched back in August 2011, the original Temple Run has totalled more than 170m downloads.
