Twitch scraps developer badge from chat streams

Twitch has discontinued a badge that indicated game developers in chat streams.

According to a blog post, the badge is no longer displayed on the platform, and the option in the developer console has been disabled.

“The increased volume in organisation requests as a result of the chat badge, both legitimate and illegitimate, contributed to a noticeable delay in our reviews and an increasingly difficult-to-manage queue,” wrote Jon Bulava, head of Twitch developer relations.

This situation pertains to Twitch’s developer organisations feature, which enables studios to create extensions for analyzsng game performance on the platform.

The choice to remove the badge was made to “restore [its] developer organisation process.”

Developers who submitted a request including a game ownership claim before November 1, 2024, will have their review finalised by December 1, 2024.

Requests without a game ownership claim will be denied, but developers are encouraged to resubmit.

Regarding the potential reintroduction of the badge, Bulava mentioned that the feature “has challenges to overcome” before that can happen.

“There are no plans to consider this functionality at this time, but it may be re-evaluated in the future given the potential to facilitate communication between developers and the creators who love playing their games.”
