Uber is looking to expand even further beyond its ride hailing roots and is reportedly developing a new business that offers short-term staffing for events.
With Uber Works, the transport giant will look to apply its ‘on-demand’ model to the staffing world by enabling companies to recruit short-term workers, like waiters and security guards, for functions.
Uber has been developing the project in Chicago for several months on the back of an earlier trial of the service in Los Angeles, reports the Financial Times, citing people familiar with the matter.
There is no timeline on when Uber Works could launch but the company is already looking to recruit people interested in working in the space. Job listings have popped up looking for people with an interest in the ‘on-demand labour space’ who are prepared to be on call during busy periods during nights, weekends, and holidays.
For the time being, Uber is not involving active Uber drivers but, in future, drivers may be able to use the service to get away from being behind the wheel all day and earn more money on the side.
