Vimeo has bought Echograph, an iOS video creation and promotion app created by Clear-Media. The app, which enables its users to create animated gifs on mobile, was available from the App Store at £1.99 but will now be given away for free.
The app’s creator and Clear-Media CEO, Nick Alt, will leave his role to lead development across all platforms at Vimeo as the companys VP of Mobile. He has already developed a number of interesting video-based platforms, including a cooking app, Appetites, and ConciseClick, a clickable video technology in use by retailers. The Echograph team will report to Vimeo’s president, Dae Mellencamp.
