Yahoo Debuts Mobile Search Engine

yahoo search mobileYahoo has unveiled its new mobile search engine in the US following changes to its long-standing deal with Microsoft that has seen the Bing search engine integrated into Yahoos mobile and desktop services.

Yahoo announced the renegotiation of the six year deal in April, with Yahoo continuing to serve Bing ads and search results for the majority of its desktop search traffic, but Microsoft becoming the exclusive salesforce for Bing Ads, easing the burden on Yahoo and leaving it free to focus on its Gemini ad platform.

Speculation surrounding the two companies longstanding search partnership began earlier in April, after images of a new mobile search engine were leaked, indicating that Yahoo was developing their own search solution.

That speculation has been confirmed today, with the launch of a new mobile search experience by the company that promises to connect users immediately to the people, places and things they care about.

“At Yahoo, we believe deeply in search – an area of growth and continued investment for us,” said Andrew Poon, vice president of product management at Yahoo. “We also beleive that the shift to mobile can and will fundamentally change the overall search experience, allowing us to use rich inputs like context and location in order to deliver the most relevant results.

“Yahoo has served as your guide to the web, and were thrilled to reach this milestone in our efforts to bring you the best search experience possible. We look forward to continuing to learn from and with you as we work hard to make it even better.”
