YouTube goes ad-funded with Originals and Specials

YouTube is making all of its forthcoming original series and specials available to watch, funded by advertising. It previously charged $11.99 (£9.23) a month for ad-free access to Originals and all other YouTube content.
YouTube has also unveiled a new and returning slate of original series and specials focused on music, learning and personalities that will all be free with ads, including seasons 1 and 2 of “Cobra Kai” beginning this autumn. The announcements were made on stage today at YouTube’s annual Brandcast event by
“For todays viewers, primetime is personal and our content resonates so strongly due to the diversity and richness of our unmatched library and platform capabilities,” said YouTube chief business officer, Robert Kyncl.
“While every other media company is building a paywall, we are headed in the opposite direction and now have more opportunities than ever to partner with advertisers and share our critically-acclaimed originals with our global audience.”
Other returning series include Cobra Kai Season 3, in 2020; Kevin Hart: What The Fit, Season 3 (2020); Impulse, Season 2 (Autumn 2019); and Liza on Demand, Season 2 (autumn 2019).
New series include A Heist With Markiplier, an interactive special premiering autumn 2019; Dude Perfect (autumn 2019); and an Untitled Paris Hilton Documentary (2020).
