Apple has reportedly begun removing apps that share their location data with third parties, as they violate parts of its app store review guidelines.

The tech giant has been informing developers via email that their apps are in violation of sections 5.1.1 and 5.1.2 of its guidelines. These sections pertain to the collection, storage, and sharing of data.

The sections state that apps must have a privacy policy and have user consent for the collection of data, must provide app access without login, must not be used to pull passwords or other private data, data may not be used or shared with third parties for purposes other than improving user experience or performance updates.

Upon review of these sections, developers have been told that they must remove any code, frameworks, or SDKs that relate to violation before their app can be resubmitted to the App Store.

According to 9to5Mac, some of the apps that have been removed do not do enough to let users know what it is doing with their data or have been using data for purposes unrelated to improving user experience.
