Sony’s PlayStation, Sony Pictures and Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan are teaming up to create a non-game VR experience based on the popular crime drama TV show.
Breaking Bad has been off our screens for nearly four years but now, according to Variety, fans could get their next fix of the highly-rated show. At present, there are very few details about the experience, and there has been no indication as to whether it will be a one-off or a fully-fledged VR series. We only know that whatever is in the works will not be released this year.
“Were working with Sony Pictures and Vince Gilligan to bring a Breaking Bad VR experience out,” Shawn Layden, president at Sony Interactive Entertainment America, told Polygon. “I dont know what its going to be. No idea what its going to do, but theyre very keen at looking at virtual reality as the new medium. Its not an extension. Its not an upgrade of a current medium. Its a brand-new platform and movie directors and film directors are going to have to learn new disciplines in order to tell their story in that kind of a world where the viewers got completely free agency on where they go, where they look, what they see.”
