Disney and Lenovo give Star Wars fans chance to become Jedi in new AR experience

Disney Lenovo Star Wars ARDisney has teamed up with Chinese tech company Lenovo to deliver an AR experience based on the world of the Star Wars films.

Via a new AR headset from Lenovo, Star Wars fans are given the chance to involve themselves in moments from the famous film series in the experience called ‘Star Wars: Jedi Challenges’.

One of the things that fans can enjoy is Holochess, or Dejarik – a holographic projection of Star Wars’ take on chess, which was first seen played between Chewbacca and R2-D2 in Star Wars: A New Hope. Jedi Challenges also enables users to swing lightsabers and view different perspectives of the Star Wars battlefield.

The headset, like Samsung’s Gear VR, will have its display made by a compatible smartphone slipped into the headset – as opposed to a built-in display. And it will come with a lightsaber motion controller tracked by two headset cameras. According to Lenovo’s website, the headset and experience will be available from Best Buy and Lenovo.com ‘soon’. Lenovo has yet to announce the price at which the headset will retail, or what other experiences are planned in the future.
