Epic Games plans to remove Fortnite from mobile app stores

Epic Games has announced it is preparing to remove Fortnite and its other titles from mobile app stores.

This comes as the gaming giant announced the launch of its own digital platform on iOS and Android in the European Union later this year, with expansion to iOS in the UK planned for the second half of 2025.

In a statement, the company said: “Today, we’re announcing that Epic also plans to bring our own mobile games including Fortnite to other mobile stores that give all developers a great deal.

“We will be ending distribution partnerships with mobile stores that serve as rent collectors without competing robustly and serving all developers fairly, even if those stores offer us a special deal for our own games.”

As an immediate step, Epic Games has pulled its popular games, including Fortnite, from the Samsung Galaxy store.

Additionally, Epic added Google’s alleged attempts to influence Samsung to limit competition in the Android app distribution market, reinforcing its decision to withdraw from these platforms.

Looking ahead, Epic Games plans to make its mobile titles available on AltStore for iOS users in the European Union, with further availability on at least two other third-party stores expected soon.

The new Epic Games Store for mobile will reflect the terms of its PC digital store. Developers will incur a 12% fee for processing payments and have the option to use third-party payment systems without additional fees.

This model aims to offer a more developer-friendly alternative compared to major app stores, the company stated.
