Facebook’s Instant Games, the cross-platform gaming experience first launched on Messenger and the news feed almost two years ago, is making its way to Groups and Facebook Lite.
The HTML5-supported platform is starting to roll out to the more than 270,000 groups dedicated to gaming on Facebook, enabling members within these groups to play games with each other. The social network is also exploring the option of making Instant Games an opt-in feature in groups from all other categories.
Meanwhile, Instant Games have arrived on Facebook Lite and are available through the ‘More’ menu adjacent to the news feed. Alongside this, Facebook is improving thread updates for users. By offering the gaming platform on Lite, it shows how HTML5 “can provide a compelling gaming experience regardless of phone or network constraints,” according to Olivier Bouan, product manager at Facebook.
Facebook says it has also improved the discoverability and experience of the ‘Games’ bookmark within Facebook and leveraged notifications to support player experience. In addition, it has added support for ads based monetisation in both the Android and iOS app, as well as IAP support on Android and for web games on Facebook.com.
