Facebook goes after YouTube with app for video creators

Facebook Creator appFacebook has launched an app dedicated to video creators, providing them with tools to personalise their content, view analytics, and more, as it looks to pull YouTubers over to its platform.

Facebook Creator is a hub making it easier for users to create video and livestreams on their mobiles. Features in the app include a live creative kit, a community tab, the ability to crosspost, and insights into video views and reach.

The creative kit enables users to add their own personalised touch to their live broadcasts with customised intros and outros, as well as live stickers and graphic frames. Meanwhile, the community tab offers a way to connect with fans and collaborators through a dedicated inbox, which centralises Facebook and Instagram comments, and messages from Messenger.

The app is available around the world on iOS, and will roll out to Android ‘in the coming months’. It is open to individuals on Pages or profiles.

On top of the app, Facebook has created a dedicated website called ‘Facebook for Creators’ to offer resources and tips on how to create the best possible content and grow a fanbase.

“We are excited to see how creators use these tools to share video, interact with their followers, and grow their community on Facebook,” said Chris Hatfield, product manager for video at Facebook. “We are just getting started, and look forward to continuing to work collaboratively with creators to make their experience on Facebook even better.”
