Facebook debuts US Election voting hub

Facebook and Instagram have launched a voting hub on their platforms to provide the US population with all the information and resources they need ahead of the 2020 Presidential Election.

The nonpartisan ‘Voting Information Center’ will connect users to information about voting specific to the state they live in and help them to gain better understanding of the sometimes-confusing election process.

The launch of the hub, which has been designed by Facebook based on the lessons it has learned from its COVID-19 Information Center, comes a month after Facebook declared its intention to help at least 4m people to register to vote through a wide-reaching voting information campaign.

Facebook and Instagram users can access the Voting Information Center from the menu. Here, they are able to see if they are registered to vote – and, if they are not, register through a link that takes them to their state website or a nonpartisan partner of Facebook. There’s also information about registration deadlines and vote-by-mail options. The information in the hub will link to and be sourced from state election officials and other nonpartisan civic organisations.

In addition to the voting hub, Facebook is introducing ‘Voting Alerts’ and ‘Facts About Voting’.

The Voting Alerts will help state and local election authorities reach their constituents with updates about voting, while the Facts About Voting section will feature articles about the election and voting from the Bipartisan Policy Center.
