Taxi app Hailo celebrated reaching 20m passengers this week with a Cake and Cuppa cab service in Manchester.
Launched by a team of taxi drivers and internet entrepreneurs in November 2011, the company has raised £60m in investment and offers services in cities across Europe, North America and Japan.
To celebrate its landmark 20 millionth passenger, Hailo commissioned an artist to transform the backseat of a cab into a quintessential British lving room, with sofa style seating, radio, slippers and morning papers.
The cab laid on tea and cakes for passengers picked up from Manchester Piccadilly station, and took no fares, with Hailo instead donating £1,000 to local charity Forever Manchester, which supports local projects aiimed at raising quality of life across Greater Manchester.
“Hailo is a British startup success story, and we wanted to thank our customers with something that reflects our roots,” said Russ Hall, co-founder of Hailo. “What better way than with the quintessential British tradition of a brew and cake? Were so chuffed to reach 20 million passengers, and love that we could celebrate the milestone in Manchester, the latest city in which weve launched.”
