Half of Our Readers are Blocking Ads, says Publisher

ad-block-mobile.pngA tech news site based in the Netherlands has posted an appeal to ad blockers to whitelist the site after seeing its ad traffic drop by nearly half.

“Where a year ago we served 375-400,ooo pageviews per day, we now register just over 200,000 pageviews a day,” wrote Hilbert Hagedoorn, editor and owner of Guru3D.com. “Thats right, nearly 50 per cent of the readers are blocking ads.”

He noted the “huge discrepancy” between the sites view figures on Google Analytics and DoubleClick for Publishers, despite overall traffic remaining constant.

Hagedoorn pledged not to serve intrusive pop-up or takeover ads on the site, and asked readers to whitelist the site in Adblock Plus or else make a monthly donation to the site.

“Over the past year we have seen our income literally halved as a direct result of active ad blocking,” he wrote. “Right now ad blockers are a true danger for our existence.”
