IMImobile, a cloud communications software and solutions provider, is intent on driving RCS (Rich Communication Services) business messaging adoption by enterprises around the world. To help achieve this, it has released a unified RCS messaging API alongside the low-code toolset it launched last year in its IMIconnect platform.

With the launch of the API, enterprises are able to design, build, and launch RCS messaging journeys with the low-code, drag-and-drop workflow builder. According to the company, it provides the ability to perform capability lookups, send messages, receive messages, process customer actions and typing indicators as well as supporting the GSMA’s Universal Profile 2.0 specification. For devices and carriers that do not support RCS, the IMIconnect platform enables an ‘automatic fall-back’ to other channels, such SMS or MMS.

“Interactions between businesses and consumers are increasingly shifting to messaging channels,” said Sudarshan Dharmapuri, SVP of product management at IMImobile. “Our unified API and drag-and-drop tools allow businesses to easily incorporate RCS into their communications strategy and rapidly deliver richer, interactive customer communications enabled by AI-powered bots and human agents seamlessly working together to create a frictionless customer experience.”

IMImobile will be showcasing RCS messaging experiences launched via the API alongside launch partners including Hermes, DPD, Pizza Hut, Shell, and Barclays at MWC next week.

Last month, Google announced that it was adding RCS messaging to its Google Fi mobile virtual network following the rollout of limited support by mobile network operators such as Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile in the US, and Vodafone in the UK.
