Instagram brings GIFs to Direct messages

Instagram Direct Giphy GIFsInstagram is making sliding in the DMs on its platform more fun with the introduction of GIFs to Instagram Direct messages.

Through a partnership with Giphy, users will be able to send animated GIFs in both Direct one-on-one messages and in group chats. To do so, users just have to tap the new GIF button and search for the animation that they want to use. To spice things up a bit, users will also have the option to send a random GIF, based on what they have searched, by tapping ‘random’.

At the beginning of the year, Instagram brought GIF stickers – also powered by Giphy – to Stories.

“Now you can message your friends with GIFs in Instagram Direct,” said Instagram in a blog post. “From ‘LOL’ to ‘I love you,’ you can express yourself in countless visual ways when you’re messaging your friends.”

GIFs in Direct are available now in the latest version of both the Android and iOS versions of the Instagram app.
