Photo sharing platform Instagram has announced that it is increasing the number of images or videos that can be included in a single post to 10, enabling both consumers and advertisers to share more content in a single posting.
With the apps latest update, 10 photos and videos can be gathered together in post, with users then able to swipe through the content to view it. A blue dot at the bottom of such posts will signal to users that there are multiple images to see.
When uploading content to their feed, users will see a new icon, enabling them to select multiple photos and images, with Instagrams filters and editing options able to be applied one-by-one or to the post as a whole. Posts will still have only a single caption, and will remain in Instagrams well-known square format.
To match the change to the consumer offering, ad carousel units for brands will also be able to include 10 images or videos, providing marketers with greater flexibility and richer opportunities for storytelling on the social platform.
“People come to Instagram to get inspired and discover new things, which means Instagram can be a virtual shop window for businesses to connect with consumers from anywhere in the world,” said a spokesperson for the company. “This new update will allow businesses to share more in-depth moments with their followers; whether its creating a step-by-step tutorial, showing the different angles of a new product, or sharing a collection from the catwalk in one post, businesses can now share more than just one moment without worrying about over-posting to their feed.”
The new feature will be rolled out globally on both iOS and Android versions of the app over the coming days.
