Instagram has made a change to user bios that means whenever Instagrammers mention a hashtag or another account ­in the section, a link will be displayed for that leads to the necessary page or profile.

If a user types either # or @ when filling out their bio, they will be presented with a list of recommended hashtags or accounts. Once they have added the ones they want, these hashtags and profles will be automatically linked to, making it easier for followers to connect with others or view the interests of the person they are following.

When somebody is linked within a bio, they receive a notification and can choose to remove the link to their profile, but their profile name will still remain in the bio unlinked.

Back in December, Instagram rolled out the ability to follow hashtags, and the introduction of hashtag and profile linking is just the next step in the platform’s attempts to keep people continually exploring its app.
