Line adds Snapchat Stories copy

Line StoriesJapanese messaging app Line has become the latest platform to mimic the ‘story’ concept introduced and made famous by Snapchat.

Line’s ‘Stories’ feature will enable its users to “share moments, moods, and statuses in the form of video, photo, or text”. As typical with any Stories feature, these posts will disappear after 24 hours.

When a user modifies their profile picture or background, they can also choose to display this within their story, having previously only being able to do so in the ‘Friend’s’ list.

“As posts vanish after 24 hours, there is no need to worry about overposting or having posts remain in the feed,” said the company in its announcement. “Stories allows friends to discover real-time information on Timeline that is available only for that moment.”

Since Snapchat debuted Stories in 2013, a bunch of the internet’s most popular services have introduced iterations of the feature. The most famous instances of this being when Facebook added stories to all its platforms: its main app, Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

Although, Facebook’s attempts at copying Snap haven’t always proved to be successful. Just this week, Facebook’s Instagram decided to kill off its standalone Snapchat clone.
