Designer watch maker Michael Kors has become the first Instagram brand account holder to experiment with adx on the platform, receiving 220,000 likes so far for an image posted on Friday.
With content for the first time seen by followers and non-followers alike, one user said: “I dont want to see ads for stuff that I will never buy”, but Instagram will be using Facebook data, its own user information, as well as feedback to ensure targeting improves. Another user came to Instagram’s rescue, saying: “What do you want? This is a free service!!”
Michael Kors already had more than 1m followers on Instagram. 40 per cent of the 1,000 most shared videos on Instagram are actually made by brands, according to a report from Unruly.
Adidas, Ben & Jerrys, Burberry, General Electric, Lexus, Levis, Macys, PayPal and Starwood will now begin populating Instagram users feeds.
