OpenAI tests new AI search features

OpenAI has announced it is currently testing a new prototype called SearchGPT, which introduces advanced AI search capabilities that may eventually be integrated into ChatGPT.

According to the AI giant, this prototype, merges the power of OpenAI’s models with real-time web information to provide quick, accurate answers with relevant sources, with the program being rolled out to a select group of users and publishers for feedback.

As a result, the company aims to enhance the conversational capabilities of its models by incorporating real-time information from the web.

SearchGPT is designed to respond swiftly to questions, provide the latest information, and link to relevant sources, OpenAI stated.

The prototype also allows users to ask follow-up questions, building a shared context through ongoing queries.

OpenAI is also collaborating with publishers and creators to ensure that high-quality content is highlighted, and publishers are prominently cited and linked within searches.

Earlier this year launched a new “historic” multi-year partnership with media giant News Corp.

As part of the deal, the AI giant will have access to current and archived content from publications including The Wall Street Journal, Barron’s, MarketWatch, Investor’s Business Daily, FN, and New York Post, The Times, The Sunday Times and The Sun.

Meanwhile, most recently, it also announced its partnership with Time Magazine.

Additionally, OpenAI is offering tools for publishers to manage their appearance in SearchGPT and sharing insights on engaging with AI search product.

In a social media post, OpenAI CEO, Sam Altman said: “We think there is room to make search much better than it is today. We are launching a new prototype called SearchGPT.

“We will learn from the prototype, make it better, and then integrate the tech into ChatGPT to make it real-time and maximally helpful.”
