Snapchat is reportedly testing a feature that enables users to use their accounts to connect to third party apps – the same kind of thing that Facebook is currently in a lot of hot water over.
The move from Snap, which was first reported by Mashable, seemingly couldn’t have come at a worse time with everything going on over at Facebook. But this is exactly what’s happening.
The ‘Connected Apps’ tab sits within Snapchat’s Settings page. It features the text “these apps are connected to your Snapchat account. Choose an app to control what it has access to”.
Much like Facebook, Google, and Twitter, it seems that Snapchat will start partnering with third party apps to enable users to login to them via their Snapchat accounts. Although, we do not yet know what sort of access developers will gain to user data as a result of agreeing to allow Snapchat logins. And, on that point, user trust in these social media logins is very low at the moment anyway, so adoption could be slow.
Snapchat has yet to comment on its plans with the API.
