Free OTT messaging app Viber is teaming up with social news site BuzzFeed to launch Viber Public Chat, which aims to give users an exclusive inside view into the most shareable stories and videos on the web.
BuzzFeeds social media editors, community moderators and editorial team will all contribute to the ongoing Public Chat conversation hosted on Viber, sharing news and adding their own commentary and discussion. Viber users will be able to follow the conversations in real-time and interact with posts, indicating which content they like.
The Public Chat was launched in beta in November, and there are now hundreds of Viber Public Chats available globally, with the number of followers growing rapidly.
“Were really excited that BuzzFeed is joining the conversation on Viber,” said Mark Hardy, CMO of Viber. “This Public Chat gives Viber users the inside scoop on the most shareable content and allows them to experience breaking news, commentary and chat from the experts as it unfolds.”
“Were always looking for new channels to expand our reach and Public Chats is a great opportunity to give Vibers worldwide audience a way to discover and engage with Buzzfeeds latest news, lifestyle and entertainment content,” said Ben Ronne, product lead for growth and data at BuzzFeed.
