Amazon today launches Prime Video ads

Amazon has introduced adverts to its Prime Video streaming service.

From today [5 February 2024], Prime Video users will see “limited” adverts before and during TV shows and movies.

However, unless customers can pay £2.99 per month to remove these adverts.

The tech giant announced the decision to follow rivals Netflix and Disney+, which started rolling out ads to their cheapest subscription options in 2022 in September.

At the time, Amazon Video said in a statement: “To continue investing in compelling content and keep increasing that investment over a long period of time, starting in 2024, Prime Video shows and movies will include limited advertisements in the UK.

“We aim to have meaningfully fewer ads than linear TV and other streaming TV providers.”

The news comes as Amazon Prime recently launched two new adverts as part of its global brand platform, “It’s On Prime,” aimed to position the service as a membership that brings users closer to what they care about.
